Getting Ready For Spring Around The Millyard…

This year there will be no big Spring flower show at the Expo. Instead the Mass. Horticultural Society is “spreading the wealth” and presenting exhibitors at various venues.
From the Mass Horticultural Site
“The Trustees and Officers of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society are delighted to announce a new show in downtown Boston to celebrate the arrival of spring – BLOOMS! This innovative new event will feature springtime collections of outstanding horticultural arrangements in the spectacular marble lobbies of Mass Hort’s Greenway Gardens three neighboring buildings – One International Place, 125 High Street, and the InterContinental Hotel. BLOOMS! will also be on display at South Station from Friday, March 13 through Sunday March 15. There will be beautiful exhibits by Lamberts Marketplace and Mahoneys. The show is open from Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15, 2009.

In addition, we have made arrangements for many of our traditional large-scale Flower Show exhibitors to exhibit at The Mall at Chestnut Hill, the Atrium Mall, and Copley Place. These exhibits will run from March 12-22.”

Family Science Camp: Behind the SSC Scenes
Saturday, March 14, 2009
10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Seacoast Science Center at Odiorne State Park, Rye, N.H.

“Family Science Camp will bring you out and about to learn about Odiorne’s habitats. Hands-on activities will keep all ages engaged. We will use binoculars, microscopes, data loggers and more.

Family Science Camp is ideal for families with children ages 6 and up and is held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The cost per session is $40 per family for members; $50 per family for non-members. We recommend that you pack a lunch and a bring a backpack for outdoor wear.

On Saturday, March 14, you’ll learn all about the behind-the-scenes work of SSC’s live animal exhibits. Do you know where the salt water in our tanks comes from? Have you ever wondered how we maintain the water quality in all of our aquariums? Do you know what habitats the different tanks represent and what the animals diet consists of? Come learn what is involved in keeping our animals healthy and our exhibits dynamic. Lend a hand during feeding time and get up close and personal with your favorite animals.

Programs run rain or shine and meet in our Gregg Interactive Learning Studio. For more information and to register, contact Education Director Perrin Chick at 603-436-8043, ext. 17 or info@seacentr.org.”
